As we progress into another calendar year of publication, you will see some additional features added to the pages of Pro Audio Review in 2006.
Something NewStarting this issue our new monthly
X/Audio column will cover subjects relating to the "underground" crowd of pro audio production/creation for hip-hop, alternative, techno, electronic music, podcasting, etc. Each month the column will work its way through the products, techniques and experiences of the folks making this music. This month our own
Davis White takes a look at the trend of circuit bending.
To further PAR's missions as the buyer's resource for audio professionals, we will also implement this year two additional editorial guideposts to further enhance the informative nature of the reviews.
Starting in March, readers will see a new sub-review section, called "
User Input," added to a select number of reviews each month. This review adjunct will feature feedback from end-users who already are using the featured product in their daily work schedules. Each month we will be soliciting comments on several products. They will then be selected and published in a later issue with the main review.
The
PAR Gear Guide, which goes to press next month will get a bit of a redesign this year with a better presentation of select new products with color photos and larger descriptions. The long list of products lines and company directory remain unchanged.
And of course, all this new stuff runs in our
digital edition as well as the paper edition. In the six issues, we have published the Internet delivered digital version of PAR, the issues have netted nearly
2.5 million page views from pro audio engineers all across the world. If you like your information from the Internet, the digital PAR works pretty well.
Product of Note Speaking of computers, here is a computer-related product I heartily recommend for audio use - the
FireWire Direct UltraBurn X DL 16X DVD burner. This FireWire 800, 16X speed DVD writer spat out finished discs of Minnetonka Bronze DVD-As and Toast 24/96 DVD-Vs more than twice as fast as the internal drive on a first generation G5 dual 2 GHz or my 8X Plextor FireWire 400 drive.
Unlike cheaper drives that are passing for pro caliber, these Pioneer-based units are ruggedly built and include all the necessary cables. It is a little noisier than the Plextor, but the speed and error-free performance eclipses that minor complaint. For more info on FireWire Direct Products go to
www.firewiredirect.com.
