by David Rittenhouse, 12.01.2004
So, you say you're in the market for a new amp. You need something that is proven trustworthy and reliable but you don't need 8,000 or even 6,400 watts of output like some of the large touring style amps. You want lightweight yet powerful, professional but without the large price tag. Well, my friend, the EV CP3000S ($2,330) should be the amp you are looking for.

NAD T 163 AV Tuner/Preamplifier & T 973 Seven-Channel Power Amplifier
by Tom Jung, 9.01.2004
For over 30 years NAD (originally an acronym for New Acoustic Dimension) has had the premise that to add 10 percent more performance to an NAD product would increase the price by a factor of 10. While there is some truth to this philosophy it may not always achieve the desired results when trying to tweak that last bit of righteousness out of a recording.

For many musicians of my generation, the name Tapco elicits feelings of nostalgia. I remember one of my first garage bands laboring away perfecting (or was it mutilating?) some Allman Brothers classic, aided by our trusty Tapco 6100R mixer.

In this day and age of smart bombs and smart cars comes the first truly smart amp. QSC SRA 1222 Amplifier
by Edward J. Foster, 5.01.2004
I suspect that Executive Editor/Publisher John Gatski was undergoing ear recalibration after the birth of #1 son when he asked me to do the hands-on review of QSC's SRA 1222 ($1,499). Usually I'm relegated to bench testing and technical write-ups, but I don't mind an occasional hands-on review, especially of a QSC product.

by Roger Williams III, 11.01.2003
Carvin Corporation, the California-based musical instrument/pro audio dealer-direct phenomenon has been in business since the middle of the last century, defying the prevailing philosophy that the market needs a typical consumer style distribution chain. The company circulates a slick catalog to the gear-starved masses and sells straight out of the factory, eliminating the middleman and therefore serving up low prices.

Truth in reporting - I am a fan of Bryston amplifiers, though I became one for the right reasons. When I opened my multiroom commercial studio I had 12 power amps in the facility; 10 were new and two I purchased from a studio closing sale. Those two were Bryston 4Bs, five years old.
