Bowman Technologies QSII

by Kevin Becka, 4.01.2000
Kevin Becka is the Editor of Audio Media U.S.

The QSII Digital Timer is a digital display stopwatch that comes with four main components. There are two separate six-digit timing displays (5"x1.5") that are connected by a supplied 30' cable with 5-pin DIN connectors. The numbers in the display are a generous size and can be read from any angle. At the back of the main display are inputs for the 6 V power supply, the remote switch and the cable to the second display.

The second display just has an input - it is powered and switched from the main unit via the cable. On the remote, the start/stop and reset buttons do what you'd expect. You can also do a running start by hitting start/stop and holding the reset button down. When reset is released, timing starts. Bowman thought of everything, even supplying a switchplate drill guide with the instructions.

When I opened the box I quickly got the complete system up-and-running without instructions. The buttons on the remote have a solid feel and have a click at the bottom of the throw so you can nail the start and finish of your program. The QSII is a class act throughout; the solder connections and cabling at the back of the switchplate are well done and nothing in the package is left to guesswork. Any production room needing a serious but simple timer should give the QSII a look.

The dual display version is $449; the single display version is $249.
